Tea Tasting:
Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Tea
We hold these truths to be self-evident that all people are created equal and have the right to the pursuit of life, liberty, and TEA! We'll taste five different types of teas while learning about tea in America.

Un-American Teas: First we'll start with teas that were popular in America during its early days. The teas that ended up in the harbour were tasty and unique. While we taste we'll learn about tea in Colonial America and how tea would become distinctly Un-American.
Young American Teas: A lot of folks don't know, but we do have tea plantations in the US. The tea trees in America are young and so is the tea industry here. Those that want the young American can try some homegrown teas. We'll learn more about American tea industry while we taste and compare. Don't miss trying our own Alabama grown tea!

Tea Event:
Cloud Drinking
a practice in mindfulness
"When we drink a cup of tea, we drink a cloud."

In these turbulent times, we welcome you to a moment of peace. No experience in tea ritual is necessary. You will be guided in a meditative practice of tea enjoyment -- or cloud drinking, as coined by the Buddhist teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh.
Our tea ritual is inspired by Asian styles of brewing and serving tea, often called Gong Fu Cha, or literally: serving tea with skill. Using traditional tea tools and accoutrements you will be guided through your cloud drinking, each steep of the leaves bringing forth different layers of flavor. Through focusing on the process of preparing and drinking tea, you are invited to come home to your body and the present moment. And through meeting yourself, you are ready to meet the world.

Our in-person tea tasting parties are usually held on Sundays 12 to 2:00pm in Huntsville, Alabama. They are finely crafted events with tea, food (with vegan and gluten-free options), and decorations, therefore signing up ahead of time is a must. Generally the last day to sign up will be the Thursday before the event, but sometimes we fill up so signing up well in advance is encouraged.

Some events are virtual and held over Zoom. This also means you can join from anywhere in the U.S. First, you'll fill out a form and sign up for an event, then a tea package will be mailed to you.​

What to expect from a Hearthstone tea party:
Our tea parties are sit-down events where you will be guided through the tasting of 5 different types of teas. Our parties are an immersion experience and include decorations and matching tea china, with the chosen teas & some snacks all in theme.
​
In addition to the instruction, this is also a social occasion, leaving time for good conversation. You might leave with more friends than you came with!
​
We welcome dressing up and costumes, but you will not feel out of place if you just come as you are.
​
Please be on time as we will be tasting the teas all together as a group.
